River of Life – Artist at Work

This powerful image captures artist Ivan Roque mid-stroke as he paints River of Life, a 100-foot mural along River Street in downtown Janesville. Created during the 2021 Art Infusion festival, this piece reflects Roque’s signature use of symbolism: an owl for wisdom, flowers for transformation, vines for connection, and thorns representing life’s trials. Set against the wall of Rock River Charter School, the mural blends vibrant color and emotional storytelling. This particular photo brings viewers closer to the creative process itself—highlighting the artist’s focus, technique, and dedication in a rare moment of public art in the making.
