Captured in Wisconsin, Printed To Last
From Lens To Living Room
This striking alleyway view reveals the powerful "In History We Trust" mural in downtown Janesville, created by Jeff Henriquez during Art Infusion 2020. Framed by the raw texture of fire escapes and aged brick, this image offers a contrasting blend of urban realism and inspiring symbolism.
On the mural’s left, a woman wears a locket bearing Harriet Tubman’s portrait, a nod to Janesville’s strong abolitionist history — including visits from Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, and its proximity to the Milton House, a preserved stop on the Underground Railroad.
On the right, a Native American woman is adorned with feathers representing wisdom and guidance from elders. A lone wolf howls at the rising moon beside her, symbolizing community and identity, while a galaxy of stars above speaks to infinity and possibility. Wisconsin’s state flower, the wood violet, blooms throughout the design.
Photographed from behind Looking Glass Bar, this view highlights the mural's sheer scale and emotional depth, while grounding it in the urban fabric of downtown Janesville.
