“In History We Trust” Mural – Downtown Janesville

This striking photograph showcases the powerful “In History We Trust” mural, a centerpiece of downtown Janesville’s growing public art scene. Framed by a dramatic, cloud-filled sky and glowing in the golden evening light, the mural overlooks a bustling night at the popular Looking Glass Pub & Grill, capturing the city's unique blend of history, culture, and community.

Created as part of Art Infusion 2020, the mural is rich in symbolism. The woman on the left wears a locket featuring Harriet Tubman, a nod to Janesville’s abolitionist legacy and its connection to the nearby Milton House, a known stop on the Underground Railroad. The Native American woman beside her is adorned with feathers symbolizing elder guidance and protection, a wolf representing community and strength, and a starry sky suggesting infinite possibility. Wood violets, the Wisconsin state flower, bloom at the base—anchoring the artwork in state pride and place.
